I’ve been skating for 15 years, and I’ve never been so excited to go slalom. But like anything new or different, it’s hard to maintain the same way of doing it over the long term. But this year I’ve made it a point to slow down and try new things to see if they will help me get to the next level and keep me on track.
Ive also been keeping track of my results, and Ive kept a spreadsheet with all my slalom results that Ive organized by different factors like speed, score, etc. Ive also tracked my practice and progression on other skates and found some things that arent so great to do. But Ive found ways to improve my results so that I can compete in the slalom races.
Ive found that I have a tendency to slow down on my turns. Ive gotten way too afraid of crashing and getting hurt. So Ive found a way to help my turn accuracy with practice. When I play on the ice, I also find that I am less consistent and I play way harder than I would normally. With slalom, Ive found that I have a tendency to let my scoring go by, and not really think about it.
I just got back from a slalom event in Switzerland, where I met up with some friends. It was an awesome event, where I was paired with a very, very good friend, and we had a lot of fun. But my turn wasnt as good as it was, or as it should have been. I was too lazy to practice, and I also let my score go by by accident.
